Montgomery County, Pennsylvania Inmate Search

An inmate search is a tool that allows the general public to check whether an individual is currently being held in jail or prison. Conducting this lookup helps family, friends, and legal counsel locate a person’s basic custody details.

In Montgomery County, one can use inmate searches to check who is currently in custody at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility (MCCF), the primary detention center. Such searches reveal each inmate’s full name, booking date, housing or unit location, a general description of their charges, and their current custody or release status.

While the county operates a primary jail, municipal law enforcement agencies, including those in Lower Merion, Abington, and Cheltenham, still manage short-term holding facilities. Arrestees are briefly held in these local cells before transfer to the MCCF.

How to Find an Inmate in Montgomery County Jail

Unlike many other detention centers, the MCCF does not host its own direct, scrollable online jail roster for the public.

The public may call the Montgomery County Correctional Facility’s main line at (610) 635-7100 to request the most accurate and up-to-date inmate information, as an individual may have been released, reassigned, relocated, bonded out, or sentenced since the initial booking.

Callers must have the inmate’s basic information, such as their full name and date of birth, on hand before contacting the jail, as this helps staff quickly locate records.

How to Use the Montgomery County Jail Roster

Because Montgomery County does not maintain an independent online jail roster, the local justice system often points the public to statewide databases for inmate lookup and custody status notifications.

Inquirers may conduct searches through PA SAVIN (Pennsylvania Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification). Although not a standard jail roster, the site may provide basic custody information for offenders within Montgomery County once certain search parameters are entered into the system.

Here’s how it works:

  • Navigate to the PA SAVIN website.
  • Select An Offender from the options in the "Search Type" field.
  • In the location field, choose Pennsylvania, and then select the Name search option.
  • Enter the arrestee’s first name and last name in the fields provided.
  • Complete the CAPTCHA test and hit the Search button.

Users with access to the inmate’s ID number can use that option to search and verify whether the person’s custody status has changed.

What Information is Included in the Montgomery County Inmate Roster

A standard Montgomery County inmate search provides certain basic information for the inquirer. In addition to an inmate profile generated through PA SAVIN, the public can use the Unified Judicial System (UJS) Case Search portal to find individual criminal case information.

The list below aggregates publicly available inmate information across all official search channels.

  • Inmate ID: Assigned by the state or county to track the individual within the justice system.
  • Inmate’s Personal Information: Full legal name, aliases, date of birth, address, sex, and race.
  • Booking Information: The incident number, booking date, and arresting agency.
  • Bail Information: Specifies the type of bail or bond, the amount, the bond status, the originating court, and the bond action date.
  • Charge & Case Information:
    • Charges: Every offense the person is arrested for, including the statute each offense violates.
    • Charge Grade: The severity of the offense, such as F1 for the most serious felony or M3 for the most minor misdemeanor.
    • Calendar: A chronicle of court appearance dates and the presiding judge at each hearing.
    • Case Status: Whether active or closed.

The disclosure of Montgomery County inmate records is governed by the Pennsylvania Right-to-Know Law (RTKL), under which most government records are presumed public and accessible to any inquirer.

However, correctional centers are sensitive sites, and disclosing certain information may compromise a facility’s security or an inmate’s privacy. Confidential records may be accessed only by approved government agencies, the individuals concerned, their families, or their legal representatives.

Official jail rosters typically withhold the following types of information:

    • Medical/Mental Health Data
    • Unique Information That Can Be Used to Identify an Inmate: These include social security numbers, driver’s licenses, and personal phone numbers.
    • Victim Information: Details that could identify victims of alleged crimes are typically redacted to protect their safety.
    • Juvenile Files: Records of minors involved in the justice system are generally protected from public view to support their rehabilitation.

Contact Details for Montgomery County Jail

Montgomery County’s primary jail (MCCF) is overseen by the local Board of Prison Inspectors and has a warden who manages day-to-day affairs. Therefore, all direct inquiries regarding custody status, visitation, and inmate well-being should be made to jail staff.

The MCCF operates a centralized phone system for general inquiries. The public can call this main line and select the appropriate option to request public inmate information or inquire about visitation eligibility. The MCCF also provides a special medical and mental health hotline for dedicated requests.

In-person requests can be made at the administrative unit counter during standard business hours. Requesters are advised to bring relevant inmate details to enable staff to identify the incarcerated individual.

Jail Facility Overview in Montgomery County

Montgomery has one sole correctional center, as well as one specialized facility for juvenile offenders. Although SCI Phoenix, a state prison, also exists within the county’s borders, the state Department of Corrections maintains oversight.

The Montgomery County Correctional Facility is the central hub for adult detention, housing both male and female offenders in separate, dedicated cell blocks. Adults awaiting trial are housed here; the jail also accommodates those sentenced to county-level incarceration. As a multipurpose complex, it equally hosts inmates enrolled in Work Release and Community Work programs.

Offenders of minority age are separated from the adult inmate population and housed at the Montgomery County Youth Center. This facility serves as both a secure complex for juvenile delinquents and a shelter program for those involved in less serious offenses or juvenile dependency issues.

Inmate Search by Jail Facility

Montgomery maintains a centralized jail roster for all adult persons imprisoned within the countywide correctional system, including those enrolled in specialized programs (e.g., Work Release). The public may access the county’s inmate records online through the PA SAVIN system or by contacting the jail facility’s administrative unit.

Juvenile inmate records are kept separate from the main adult database in compliance with 42 Pa. Cons. Stat. § 6307 and related portions of the Pennsylvania Juvenile Act. These records are strictly confidential and may be released only to the parents, guardians, or legal representatives of the child in question.

Montgomery County Visitation Rules and Schedules

The Montgomery County Correctional Facility provides visitation services for anyone who wishes to visit an individual in custody. However, the facility does not allow any in-person contact: all visits are conducted through a video visitation system. Visitors can use either their personal computers from home or the MCCF’s on-site terminals.

Visitation and Registration

All visitors must be pre-approved by the MCCF and on an inmate’s official visitor list. This is facilitated through a one-time registration process in person at the facility.

  • The MCCF holds registration days on Mondays and Fridays between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.
  • The facility charges $5 for a visitor registration badge, which must be paid with a $5 bill.
  • Each adult visitor must provide an official photo ID issued by a state/federal agency.
  • Visitors under 18 years of age must be in the company of a parent or guardian.

General Conduct

The MCCF may deny entry or terminate visitation for individuals who defy the facility’s stated regulations regarding dressing, permitted items, and general behavior. Some of these regulations include

  • Sheer or translucent clothing is prohibited (including halter tops, shirts that expose the midriff, and low-cut tops), while waist-down clothing must be of a reasonable length.
  • The facility does not allow visitors to bring phones, electronic devices, bags, or food into the general visitation area. These must be stored in the secure lockers.
  • The facility monitors and records all video visits and may terminate a session for vulgar language or disruptive behavior.

Visitation Schedule

The MCCF is structured into pods, each typically housing a different inmate population, such as men, women, pretrial detainees, high-security inmates, and work release participants.

The facility’s visitation schedule is organized by pods, with different housing units assigned to different days and time slots; however, every inmate is generally allotted one 30-minute visit per scheduled date.

People may schedule visits for Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Saturdays, or Sundays. The time blocks are typically 8:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Mailing and Commissary Information

Friends and family may order care packages of up to $125 in value to an inmate in the MCCF once a week, although this service is paused for inmates with a negative balance on their commissary accounts.

For inmate mail, the facility uses a digital system in which all correspondence is received, scanned by a third-party vendor, and delivered electronically to an inmate’s jail-issued tablet.

The facility allows inmates to receive personal letters, greeting cards, and photos. These are routed through the approved vendor using the provided format.

Legal mail and official documents should be sent directly to the MCCF:

Eagleville, PA 19403

Note: The MCCF does not allow postage stamps, cash, Polaroids, stickers, perfume, or content of a sexually explicit nature to enter the jail premises. Letters featuring any of these items may be rejected.
